Vietnam pheasant
(Lophura edwardsi)
The critically endangered Vietnam pheasant is endemic to central Vietnam. As it has not been documented in its natural habitat since the year 2000, it may already be extinct in the wild. However, under the umbrella of the World Pheasant Association and within the EAZA Ex situ Programme the beautiful bird has survived in viable populations.
Field research in the former habitat of the Vietnam pheasant must be conducted to identify potential sites for reintroduction. Additional breeding facilities in Vietnam are also required to prepare for potential reintroduction efforts.
The extensive factsheet for this species will be available soon.
